computer upgrade, newegg vs dell

Okay not to start a flamewar but after my PSU went out on me, I decided to upgrade my computer. I don't need the top of line, just some thing that will handle browsing, m3ps, PS, and burning at the same time.

Which would be the better upgrade route, newegg or dell?

get a hot deal dell, then pimp it with some haxxor newegg parts

if that the case, why not just start with newegg? 🙂

well, it might come out cheaper my way. might not....

go whichever way is cheaper

I was in a similar situation last year. I added all the parts to my cart at NewEgg, compared to a Dell, it was slower and more expensive. Throw in a legit copy of Windows XP and an LCD, and you can't compete, both are free and/or much cheaper with a Dell system.

Yep, but wait for the Hot Deal. Buy it with minimum configuaration (maybe bump the HDD to 80GB for $20.00) then, upgrade the memory, DVD burner, and video card from a third party. Good luck beating that with a custom box & monitor!

i wouldn't do newegg or dell. i'd comparison shop and buy from a multitide of places to buy the cheapest equipment from my standard list of desired hardware. in the end, i may choose newegg, but i may even get a new-in-box item from ebay if it's considerably cheaper from other online retailers.

Where's the OS, 19" LCD, free shipping and QUIET, numbnuts?
That's about $520 with the shipping, What are you going to get with $520 from dell? Celeron? 512MB TOPS? OS is only ~$90 Or Linux as alternative.

He can use his existing optical and hard drives.
