Computer turns off, narrowed it down to mobo or CPU

Hi folks,

I have a Socket 1156 Xeon X3430 machine cobbled together from various sources, and it's been suddenly shutting off and sometimes losing USB ports over the past few months. Lately, it even refused to POST. I dismantled it and put only the bare minimm back. Now it's POST-ing again, but it shuts down randomly every couple of hours or less.

Since 1156 is a legacy product, I have no spares for checking the motherboard and CPU separately. But all the other items in it were confirmed to be good: PSU, SSD, RAM, video card, USB add-on card and optical unit.

I'm thinking the motherboard's the likely culprit.

Anyone care to comment?

Didn't socket 1156 have problems with the sockets, not making good connections, and burning up? The whole Foxconn versus Lotes socket debate.

I'm just going to guess it's the board, though. That stuff is getting pretty old by now.
