Computer too loud!

Hey guys, I just recently added a GlobalWin CPU/heatsink to my AMD Thunderbird 950. I love it, took my CPU temp down 20 degrees, but it's SO loud. Is there anything I can do to make it a little quieter? I have the case open right now, but still! Does adding the grill to the outside of the fan help the noise? It really sounds a lot like a blow dryer. :(

Should have gotten the Fop32-1 :D
The grill makes no difference, except to protect your fingers :)

Drive down the road at 100+ mph, and stick your head out the window for about 10 minutes. Then, go inside and the noise from the fan won't seem that bad.. ;) You could also probably just buy a new fan from a place like coolerguys.com or 2cooltek.com. There really isn't anything that can muffle the sound of the delta fan.

Connect the fan's black wire to the power supply's red wire. That grounds it to the +5V line, reducing the effective voltage of the fan from 12V to 7V and lowering its speed/noise level. Or get a lower-rpm fan. I got a couple of the low-noise Adda 60mm fans from phamcomputer.com and they are very quiet, but you might need more airflow than that for a TBird 950 to keep it cooled off.

Try finding the delta 30cfm fan and put it on. It's alot quieter than the 38cfm. Problem it, they are kind of hard to find sometimes.

tell me about the noise... i used to have 2 FOP38 for my dual celeron rig.

i got tired of it and just swapped out the huge fans w/ fans i got from a card cooler... fit nicely...but temp got 5-7F higher...w/o the headache.

Here is a thought... Put in a couple of resisters to lower the voltage down to 3-5 volts. That should dappen the sound. But keep an eye on the Temp of the CPU. Too slow of fan might over heat the proc. Wouldn't it be nice if they put veriable resistors on CPU FANS? Like the do in Power Supplys? Thermal Fans. If your playing games they become super loud but if your just running the screen saver they become super quiet. Maybe we might see somthing in a new bios set up.

I doubt dropping the voltage down a few volts will overheat the proc,
as long as its pusing about 20 cfm it should be all good. thats all the 60x10mm deltas push.

Well I think the main thing is that I have the computer up on my desk sitting right next to me. I might try to move it down on the floor, but I can't really find a space for it. :(

I'd use the MechBGon 7V method over putting resistors in series with the fan. It wouldn't be all that much of an effect, put resistors just convert electrical energy to heat, and that's what we're trying to get rid of, right?
