Where you work, do you get any "fringe" benefits from your company's ordering habits? Like when your company orders 100 new whatevers do you somehow get a new P4 1.5 ghz and MB with rdram for cheap or free?

So if the sys admin turns up with a new system that he paid little or nothing for it probably fell off the back of a truck?

as with ass business. there are such things at gratuities.

It is not "talked about" but if you go to a store and order 100 units, they probably will if small shop give you one unit for free for the referral and pad the 100 units to cover it.

When I was working for a private corporation I got 10% of all money spent with a few local vendors put into an account with the store for me. That is alot of cash when you start spending $100k a year on computer equipment.

Sometimes, it depends how well you know the vendor and it also depends on the pricing. I'll never give a bad recommendation for a perk, but if the guy's going to offer me a new Palm VIIx if we buy their software, and it's the best deal anyway, who am I to say no....
