Computer taking 27 seconds to show the XP loading screen?

I just installed a fresh copy of XP on an Athlon 64 2800+...

I set the boot sequence to Floppy, then HDD

it quickly checks the floppy, and moves onto the HDD...screen turns black for 27 seconds, and only THEN, does it show the XP loading screen 😕

I've never had it take so long; any ideas?

Some device controllers (namely SATA and SCSI) have to initialize after the POST screen. If you have any of these on your motherboard try disabling them and see what happens.

Yep. My system does something similar if I leave onboard SATA controllers on, as it runs around searching for an SATA drive that doesn't exist.

have you got the jumper set to single device on your hdd?

if yes, try setting it to Master, if no, try setting it to single device

this computer was working fine on an athlon xp system...just upgraded to athlon 64, and reinstalled xp, and this started happening.

disabling SATA didn't help 🙁

Hmm, Im running 2 29160s with 10 drives plus a MegaRaid Elite 1600 with 4 raided... bootup might get finished in 3 or 4 minutes.... TRADE YOU!! 🙂

Well I hope you resolve your issue, but 27 secs just doesnt seem long in my little world.. 🙂
