Computer takes forever to boot

My sisters computer was all messed up. I don't know what happened but it would crash when you clicked on a username to log into windows. So I did a fresh format but now there's this new problem.

From the time that the ESCD updated successfully (or whatever it is) disappears from the screen to the time the windows logo appears it took 3 minutes and 15 seconds. What could be the problem?

The computer is an A64 3000+ with 1 GB Ram, a 74GB Raptor, and an MSI NF4 Platinum Motherboard. Any ideas?

Also, I have the same problem with a S754 A64 3000+ with 1GB RAM in a DFI LanParty 250GB. Thanks for any help.

Trojan and other malware? This is a fresh format behind a firewall. It does it on the windows installation as well.

I found that it was caused by a logitech mouse being plugged into the USB port. I guess it can be an issue with NF4/USB. Now, does anyone know how to fix it? Maybe I need to upgrade firmware.

start--->run--->msconfig--->startup uncheck all that you dont need at startup

do upgrade motherboard

What firewall are you using?

Sounds like a Trojan for sure and some other malware.

Norton Antivirus perhaps? That really is malware.... it will make a computer, especially an older one take days too boot and shut down..... and it's a horrible antivirus and they charge you for it.

It's not an old computer and it's not spyware/malware/anti-virus programs. Nothing is installed on the computer. It took that long to boot into the freaking windows install. I already posted that the problem was with a Logitech USB mouse and people are still saying it is an old computer or something in startup or spyware.

Not to go on a rant but read the freaking thread before suggesting things like spyware/malware/av software, especially when the cause of the problem has already been answered discovered.
