Computer suddenly doesn't want to recognise network card

My "server" which i have been using for the past 2 months has suddenly today decided that the network card isn't installed, and will not recognise it to install the drivers again!

The card is a Netgear FA311, but I have also tried it with a 3com Parallel Tasking 10/100 card, and no luck with that either, even in different PCI slots!

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong here, or would it just be Windows XP Pro telling me that it wants me to reinstall!?

if you haven't tried yet, i would suggest removing all network cards from device manager, taking all NICs out physically, and then booting up w/out any NIC installed.

then shut down, re-install NIC, and try installing driver again.

see if that works
