Hi guys,

My fathers computer; Core 2 Quad extreme at 3.2Ghz - I believe its a yorkfield, 4GiB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 1333MHz, two BFG 8800GTX oc2 GPUs, BFG Physx card and two 300GiB Velociraptor HDDs.

Basically, he tried overclocking it a couple of years ago, but it went wrong and started making a burning smell and wouldn't boot up for a few days until we reset the CMOS. Up until today it hasn't had any problems since but during boot up, up to 3 three seconds after turning the PC on, the fans spin and then the computer restarts in this continuous cycle.

Today we have reset the CMOS and cleaned all of the fans but it made the loop cycle even worse, as in a shorter duration per cycle, does anyone happen to have any ideas of what is going on and how to rectify the problem? I am aware this could be the CPUs last dying words but obviously we'd want it to carry on running.

Thanks in advance!
Josh.

Note, the CPU fan doesn't actually kick in at all - case and GPU fans are the only onces which work initially.

I'd try swapping the RAM out. Hearsay on the forums is the Crucial Ballistix can overclock but alsimo burn out easily.

Try booting with one stick of RAM. Typically not getting into BIOS is the BIOS not detecting the RAM settings properly.

We are in the process of cleaning everything and then reassembling it with one stick of RAM initially, fingers crossed!
