Computer still won't boot up

I've been having this strange computer problem over the past month. One day, my computer froze after running 3dMark several times. I tried restarting, but no go. So, I took out the CPU thinking that it was damaged and called Intel. I got my cpu replaced in three weeks.

Now when I try turning on my computer, the monitor is still blank! Could it be the memory?

BTW..I took everything out ( video card, hard drive, dvd drives) and tried them on my old Emachines. They still work, but I can't test the memory since the Emachines isn't DDR based.

I have a MSI 845G MAX (845G Chipset Based)
There are no beeps from the motherboard when I turn it on.

Well I don't know about 3DMark killing your system, I was
hoping you would get a beep code to possibly point to the
problem. Sounds like you have ruled out everything but
memory and main board. Any one you know with DDR board
to test memory?? If it checks out then its time for a new board
I believe. I was hoping one of the real GURUS would chime in.
You may also want to post this in motherboards forum.
For what its worth I'd bet your board is dead.

Hi mech, you must be psycic I was hoping you'd show up. Blurry
your in good hands now, I'm gonna sit back watch and learn.

mechBgon has been a great help to me in the past.
😛

I don't think the PowerSupply is the problem....its an solid 330W powersupply.

Anyways, I stuck here whether or not to buy new ram...all my friends have RDRAM based motherboards.🙁

You computer doesn't turn on at all?? If so you have to clear the CMOS and BIOS via the CMOS jumper located on your board. I learned that today when I just finished putting in a new HSF on my rig. Clear the CMOS and pray. 😉

I agree try clearing cmos first......

Then start thinking about testing that power supply...I have seen it happen and look just like this...freeze up while running then no boot....

Bad ram or dead ram with a properly installed case wires should be screaming at you with beeps while a bad PSU will not make a noise on most systems....

I will test the powersupply like you all have suggested. However, I have noticed that when I boot up the computer, nothing comes on the monitor but the computer sounds like its running normally.

BTW: I have tried the clear CMOS but it didn't seem to help.

That is common to power supply issues as well...It doesn't always have to be just dead it may just not be able to boot her up but the fans and drives may still spin up.

Speaker in case right??? Wires installed to mobo??? Remove ram altogether and see if it beeps at you!!!!

HSF wire is plugged into cpu header on board???

Also, if you haven't tried already, try running the CPU/motherboard/memory with no drives on your data or power cables, to eliminate those variables. At least DDR prices are low right now, and you could probably use more than 256Mb anyway, so maybe this is your excuse to pick up some more RAM to test with 😀

You might want to replace the motherboard's battery too, they're only a couple dollars.

definitely only essentials to limit load on power supply...maybe you can get it to post long enough to go into bios and check out the voltages....take case side off and unplug most of the case fans as well....

I don't think I'm putting too much on the power supply; All I have is a DVD Drive, 2 hard drives, a CPU, one stick of memory, a motherboard, and only a few fans.

The computer still won't boot even when I only have the bare essentials plugged in (no DVD drive, one hard drive.)
