Computer starts up by itself

My power supply died so I replaced it with a antec truepower 330. I like it a lot because it is very quiet. My problem is in the middle of the night the computer turns itself on. I am using winxp. I tell windows to shut down and it does but the next morning the computer is back on! Any ideas?

That's awesome. Check in your BIOS to make sure that WOL (Wake on Lan) WOR (Wake on Ring) and Timer (or alarm or whatever) are all disabled.

If they are all disabled, swap the PS. It's possible that the PS_ON# (pg. 24) stuff isn't working correctly on your new PS.

Additionally, XP has another denizen called Scheduler - and if the Wake on Lan is alive, and you have things like check email scheduled automatically, stuff happens!

Also some bios have an option that when they lose power to the system even though it's off, it will boot upon power restoration so theoretically you could have strong enough power surges to make the computer do this

Also, check under your bed before you go to sleep. There's sometimes a little troll that lives there and comes out at night to surf the web and uses instant messenger to communicate with the troll network.

More likely its those trolls in Redmond using RAS......

hehe.. its a smartpc... it knows when yer about to come check if its on.. and turns itself on about 1 minute before.. so you dont have to wait for a boot
