Using a Rosewill 500w from about 6 years ago but just changed most of the internals.

Evga 3 Sli X58
i7 920 at 3.6
3x2gb Crucial Ballistix at 1600mhz
Ti 550 1024
M4 128 SSD
old DVD burner that never gets used

I press the power button, the computer acts like it is going to start then shuts down. Then turns on after a couple seconds. Then it will work fine for back to back boots over a couple days. Then, if it sits for a couple days it will do the power hiccup again when starting.

I chalked it up to the PSU and am concerned that the 500w is not enoughnd I need to jump up to 650-750w.

This sounds to me like its more of an issue with the power button itself, rather than the P/S. Have you tried "jump starting" the computer?

So, it worked without issue with my old setup but maybe I hooked it up incorrectly on the mobo.

Pretty sure this is what I have without looking at it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182044

This seem like enough for the above stated gear? Once it is going it seems fine but I want to make sure I am not damaging anything by not giving it enough juice, if that is even plausible.

I just used one of those psu calculators and it looks like I'm right at 400w. I'm thinking a 500w is giving it just about the right juice but I may need to upgrade if I go SLI.

Your 500W Rosewill PSU with its >65% efficiency (that alone is a really bad specification) probably never could output 500W continuously, and after six years, it's even less powerful. I wouldn't be surprised if you're pushing it to its limits with your new gear, and I personally would not be comfortable running those parts on that power supply.

My budget is $80, what should I pick up?
No truly great deals on great power supplies right now, but nice promos for a couple of modular Seasonic units at the 'egg.

First up is the 500W unit which is $60 shipped after rebate, plus the 'egg throws in a $15 gift card that you can use toward a future purchase. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703035

For $70 after rebate, plus the $15 gift card, you can move to the 600W unit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703036

jonnyGURU didn't much care for the MkII, but now that PCP&C has gone back to Seasonic for the MkIII, jG like them much again. The fact that they're modular, well, hell kinda froze up a little bit.

Here's a Seasonic 650W unit that's $60 after promo code and rebate card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139020. Best power for the buck, but not modular.

Edit: well, upon further thought, perhaps not the "best" power for the buck, but less hassle I suppose since the promo code is immediate, and you're getting another 50W for $5. If I had a small case like for an HTPC, I'd lean toward modular, but otherwise I'd probably pick this one up.

Ignore the edit above...somehow beer put me into "stupid math mode" and a quick bang-bang with the wife corrected my brain fart.

The 650W is the most for the money.
