Computer stalls on first bootup. Is this a sign of old age?

This is my parents computer that I've built for them a few years ago. It's a P3 450 on an Asus P2B-F w/1gb ram. I set through the BIOS to turn on the computer when the space bar is pressed and also when I turn on the surge protector (Power Management). Now the problem is that when I bootup the computer after it's been off overnight, it always stalls like there's not enought juice to power it up. The fans and hd spin up and after 1 or 2 seconds it just turns off. I press the space bar afterwards and it boots up fine. This only happens when the computer is off for an extended amount of time. I've checked to see if there's a grounding isssue with one of the mounting tabs and I have just replaced the psu with my Enermax 365 (overkill) and still no go. Any idea what might be causing this?

I would be guessing a software problem. Try taking the setting for this start out of bios and see how it runs for a bit. Check for a new bios too, or did you just upgrade it?

Whats the OS and has it been updated?

Its usually software or drivers rather than hardware statistically.
