I remember seeing some white computer speakers and they had blue LED spectrum analysers above the drivers. they were 2.1 speakers with a left, right and sub.

does anyone know what speakers they were? The price was ~300$ and they were described as the "most desirable computer speakers"

NewQ made (makes?) some devices you could pair with speakers that had a blue display. I've never seen one, and I'm not actually sure if it was a spectrum analyzer or just showed your equalizer settings.

Anyway... do you want speakers with a spectrum analyzer for some reason, or are you just looking for a good $300 2.1 option?

IMO it seems a little absurd to buy something like that unless you have absolutely nothing else to spend the money on. That type of system will eat a substantial part of the speaker budget, pretty much destroying any value.

There are professional studio monitors that are self-compensating, but these go into the thousands of dollars so it's more sensible to incorporate such a gadget into the cost.

IMO you'd be better off buying a $250 set of speakers that's likely to sound better and spend the remainder on a radioshack SPL meter. Less elaborate than a spectrum analyzer but with a bit of work and a software EQ, it will get the job done.

Must have been before my time if they were super awesome. I don't remember hearing / reading about anything like that.
