computer slows to a crawl when i update nvidea drivers

was going to replace my 6600 gt but decided to update drivers first to see if it would make a difference. everything looks nicer on my new samsung 206bw but after a couple hours of use everything slows to a crawl- the screen freezes and stutters and then nothing works. i used system restore to go back and everything works fine. i've done this 3 times now and i get the same results. any help would be greatly appreciated.

my system: amd 3000+ 64, xp pro, 1024 ram.

Did you uninstall the old drivers first though Add/Remove programs before installing the new drivers? Possible could be some older version dll files causing a problem.
