computer slow after hdd addition

recently added a 200g seagate to the gf's comp as a secondary hdd. now she's saying that her computer is slow. i really don't think it's the hdd though. she also said her monitor is going blank now too. PSU?

specs:
1700xp
512ram
60 or 80gig
200 gig
geforce fx 5600
2 optical drives

right now I don't know the psu wattage. i'm assuming it's a 250w. given the specs above, what would be the minimum?

Is the drive IDE or SATA? I'm assuming IDE. Do you have the jumper on slave or cable select? The power supply is low as well.

IDE. the newly added 200g was on cable select. is that bad?

Depends..do you have it slaved to your other hard drive? Most likely you do. Then you probably want to set it up as a slave drive then go from there.

yes it's slaved. when i first hooked it up i didn't see a "slave" option. I only saw a primary, cable select, and some other wierd options.
