Computer shuts off after 20 seconds or so

So I've built countless computers and you always gotta have that one problem that keeps you down! I built my first I7-930 last night. I turn it on and it goes on for maybe 20 seconds or so and shuts off, reboots and then goes off. I know it could be a lot of reasons. I have a good quality antec PSU and a good Evga X58 motherboard. I had 3 sticks of ram in and then tried all 3 separate in and same problem. Now, I think it could be the cpu overheating. with the 20 seconds i had, i was able to get into bios and check the status of the computer. I noticed the temp of the cpu was 85 Celsius. that seems wayyyyyy too hot. I removed the stock thermal paste and applied arctic silver 5 which i always do. Maybe the heat sink isn't on tight enough? It's pretty snug. any ideas?

Recheck cpu fan.

you might have not connected it in properly

but sounds like your shutting down from throttle.

Yup totally agree with the above posts, somehow the CPU isn't making the correct contact with the heatsink.

If you google anything like 'my computer shutdown in 20 seconds' they all caused by the same issue.

OP dont freak out..

you didnt kill your cpu by having it undergo core shutdown from throttle.

there designed to do that.

Just dont repeat it over and over and over and over again.

I agree with all members that it may be heat issue. I think you should talk to any hardware specialist which can see your pc and tell you about the right solution.

Tell me your OS, is it legal? Pirated?
The processor, did you lock it well? (so that it won't go loose).
Did you configure your Bios correctly?
