Im sure there are dozens in here.... here is my problem:

So about 3 months ago as I can recall... My pc just shuts off. no errors.

In order to turn back on I have to power down PSU switch on my Corsair TX850.... I do this for about 3-4 weeks. PC shuts down once or twice a day or every 3 days. Very random. When I turn PC I get no errors

So I really think this is PSU Issue, Since I have everything stock in Bios, no overclock and the PSU was from 2011. I get a new Corsair HX750 and a day later same thing. I have to switch the power supply off in order to power the PC back up.

So now I think this has to be a MB issue or a Graphics card issue maybe pulling a crazy voltage or something?

I have an old Geforce 9800GT that I just put in to see if the PC still shuts down. I can still RMA the MB or Vid card since they are only about 1 Yr old. just not sure what one could be the issue. I have trouble thinking this is SW related.

Should I do any other trouble shooting? .

Do you monitor yr temps? If not, pls start and report back.

As per what I've learned from Denis in Canada...pls download WhoCrashed, free home version and run it.

I am not clear, did the shut downs stop when U put in the 9800GT GPU?

Yeah, I agree that you need to do some temperature monitoring. If you aren't running any of the manufacturer utilities, install Speedfan or HWMonitor.

If you want to use the onboard graphics (your 3570k/Extreme4 Z77 combo supports Intel HD4000 onboard graphics) in lieu of the 9800GT and have never used them before, you'll probably need to activate the Intel graphics in the BIOS, then boot to Windows and install the Intel drivers before shutting down to remove the video card.

If you look at the Windows system log in Event Viewer, are there any critical errors or warnings there?

Well... thanks guys.

First off I will install that Prog. "who crashed." just FYI the PC boots up fine with no angry prompts and I never blue screen.

and 2nd I monitor temps they are all looking good ( use real temps)

and last... I installed the Gt9800 today... and the PC shut off about 3 hours later!!!

Its looking like the MB to me. I already have the RMA form so I may get it in the mail this week. I will report back.

Yep, definitely sounds like time for an RMA. At least it was a component still under warranty.

well..i figured out the issue... after replacing just about all the hardware... I still had shut downs... that were completely random, once or twice a day....

New Power supply, RMA MB, Replaced Ram, replaced Graphics card, replaced fans, .. still had random shut downs

It was the M Audio BX5a's (monitor speakers) plugged into the SoundBlaster HD PCI card. So I unplugged them from the card and I have not had a shut down in 2 weeks.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can you believe it!!!

I am not going to say that's impossible, I have seen some strange stuff over the years, but that is highly improbable the speakers are to blame. Do you have another set of speakers plugged in the same output now?

Yes, some el cheapO battery powered speakers... I am going to wait one more week, then plug the M audios back in and see what happens.

You never mention This.in your spec.it would have save you some time.;)

its nothing that I thought could create an issue... but I was obviously wrong... I got suspicious when I had not used my pc all day and I had left the speakers on and I reached behind them and the plates were very warm. (each speaker is Bi Amped). It felt like they had been playing music all day. They usually stay cool when I am not playing anything.

An electrical short or surge can absolutely shut down or restart a PC. I have a very fluffy carpet and in the winter if I go to plug in a USB device before grounding myself on my desk i'll shock the port and it'll restart my PC.

Sounds like your speakers are defective and occasionally sending a nasty shock through the audio port causing a short on the motherboard.
