computer shuts down after 4-5 seconds...

MSI KT3 Ultra2 + 1700+, tbred.
now, i know the board supports it, it's just a matter of the bios. would the computer turning it self off after 5 seconds be a symptom of this?

possibility two: power supply just isn't sufficient enough (antec 303x). My friend had an 1800+ on an nforce w/ a gf2gts and 4 HD's running off the same HD. I'm running the 1700, one HD, and an 8500le.

Or is there something else i'm overlooking?

Any input is helpful...

Is the cpu fan connected to the cpu header on the board?

Some boards have this feature to protect the cpu in case of cpu fan faillure.

is the fan for cpu plugged into designated cpufan header on motherboard
some motherboards have a autoshutoff feature if a fan isnt detected on that header, just attach a fan to it and see if it works then (i think you can disable within bios maybe, but im not sure)

is the mobo shorting out on anything
take it out and run it on a piece of cardboard to eliminate that possibility

psu should be sufficient (its a 300w right?)

//edit
beaten to the punch i see...😉

well, the cpu works i know w/ the power supply, it's in my nforce2 (which IT'S power supply died on me as well....). my friend has an 1800 lying around i'm going to test in the other board.

and yea, i had a zalman and thought the fan speed may have been reading too low (suggested by my roommate). but taking the resistor off did not help.

ok, so the motherboard works, and the cpu works, but the motherboard and the cpu don't work together... flashed now to the latest bios.. we'll see what happens
