Greetings,

I have this problem after manage to find a legacy Socket 939 AMD 64 4200+ Mancester core processor. After installation, it can boot into Windows Vista x64 until i tried to open firefox and it shutdown itself.

Previously i run on a AMD 64 3000+ Venice core processor and no problem.

So far the shutdown occur to me when :

a. I run internet browser

b. Reinstall Windows XP ( during the system files copying ) no shutdowns when installing Windows Vista

c. open up CPUID in Everest Ultimate edition. Though, it manage to go through a 5 hour stability test run without shutdown.

Here is the spec :

AMD 64 4200+ 2.2GHZ Manchester Core
Foxconn NF4K8AC mainboard
4x 1GB DDR400 Kingston Value RAM
1x 250GB SATA HDD
1x 150GB ATA100 HDD
1x LG DVD-/+RW Drive
1x Asus 8600GT 512MB DDR3
1x Linksys NIC

Fans :
4x iCute 80MM
1x Vizo PCI slot fan

PSU :
1x Powerlogic Magnum 250 ( 250w pure / 500w peak ), 14A on +12v rail

This is the readings i manage to copy down when doing the stability test. Since i did post my problem in a local hardware forum and requested only the +12v readings.

+12v rail

on idle : 11.45v ~ 11.52v (avg. 11.48v)
on load : 11.39v ~ 11.52v (avg. 11.43v)

temp. readings :

on idle : 34c / 35c
on load : 60c / 59c

From what i have learned, many claim that it is the PSU problem but i did like to know further more before considering upgrading the PSU. Thanks in advance!

yeah, your power supply is not powerful enough to run the computer. You need at least a 500W(continuous) power supply.

Problem is probably the PSU. While 500W would be considered a very reliable 320W-400W will do too. The price for those will probably match a 500W+ so choose whatever you feel comfortable with.

Thanks for all the replies. Only realize that after manage to get a digital multimeter as well as PC Wizard 2008, the actual reading is WAY lower than what is listed on the first post. 10.95 ~ 11.07v.

Anyway, i have decided to get a 600w+ modular PSU as well as a better casing too :) Once again, thanks for all the help.

Make sure its a name brand, the power supply industry as a whole lie/mislead on their power ratings
