Computer Shut Down and Won't Turn On

Hi guys, it's been a while since I've posted on here and unfortunately, it is a computer problem that brings me here.

I was just using my new build, editing photos and streaming music, when without warning, it shut off. Initially, I thought it was a power outage or the circuit breaker tripped but everything else was on...my monitor, modem/router, speakers, lights.

I tried to power the computer back on with both the case power button and the motherboard power button but no luck. There was no noticeable burnt-electronics smell that I noticed when I opened up the case and there is also no visual indication of burning. The only thing I noticed was that the PSU was pretty warm...not hot but warmer than I would expect it to be.

When I push the power button, I do hear a "click" but nothing happens. If I hold it for 4s+, then I'll hear a second "click". There is no indication that any fans are trying to spin.

My build's specs are:

Win 8 x64
Asrock Z87 Extreme6
Intel 4770k
MSI 780
G.Skill 16GB
Corsair HX850
Samsung 840 500GB
WD 1TB Caviar Black
Asus BD-RW

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Quite frankly, this is not my first build but I've no clue where to start. Thanks for all your help!

PS. I came across another thread regarding a PC that won't turn on and followed some suggestions there such as disconnecting as much as I could from the motherboard. This didn't help so I'm suspecting the PSU...please advise.

I've tried another outlet, no dice. All of my components remain powered on via the same surge protector that the PC is powered by but I swapped outlets on there as well.

I hope that no other components were taken out by the PSU. It's a bit odd that it died without any warning or burnt-electronic smell...

If you are trying from the power button and the motherboard, it is probably the PSU gone south if it is not even power on for a split second. Usually even if there is a short you will get a brief power on.

Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd post an update. I replaced the PSU with an identical make/model and everything is back on. Just as a precaution, I swapped out all of the old cables for new ones.

It's understandable that no company can make 100% perfect products but co'mon Corsair!

Thanks,

Paul
