Computer Show Shopping

I'm going to a local computer show that is held monthly, but I have only been there once before...years ago. One question keeps bouncing around in my head...since these venders are from all around the region, usually they provide no support for anything. The one item that I did buy in the past, was receipted to me on a stock receipt with no company identification, therefore I don't know if even the manufacturers would recognize this for warranty purposes. On something minor, this is not important, but on more expensive components, of course, it is. With the item that I had bought the vender assured me that it would be no problem, but I don't know if I should have believed him or not...should I, or should I just pass on such items?

I've bought 2 computers at computer shows, I've always used a credit card so I can at least dispute charges should something go wrong within the first couple of months. Anymore I think you can get the same or better prices shopping the internet.

kornphlake,

I think that you are right, but I'm a cash man. Everytime I get credit cards, I let myself get in trouble. I'm going to look around the show, and see if anything is irresistable, but at least with the internet vendors you can expect some support, and the sale is documented.

Put some paperclips in your pocket. Usually venders at the shows have flyers and/or business cards with them. Clip one to your receipt.

Of the hundreds of things I have bought at shows, I only ever needed to exchange 2 (from different venders) and had no trouble.

IMO, I only use Computer Shows for small items. Something I can pickup for a cheap price, instead of overpriced at radioshack or bestbuy. If I want something larger I can usually get a better price online (Froogle, Newegg, Ebay, etc).
