Not the most thorough review, but at least its an official one.

Overclocking
...We reached 4.63GHz without any manual tweaking.

....During our initial stability testing, running the processor at 100 percent load for over 10 minutes, the chip’s temperature peaked at 65 degrees Celsius.

That looks a helluva lot better than what we've been seeing with the 3570k.

4.63GHz on the Intel Heat Sink and it peaks at 65C? But the real question is what was the voltage and what were they doing to stress it.

Regardless its still waaaay better than anything I"ve seen with the 3570k so far.

Just FYI the intel cooler here is a beefy mother, NOT stock as far as I know.

here's a quote

"Using the automatic overclocking features of the Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard, we were able to easily overclock our test chip to 4.63GHz using the Intel XTS100H air cooler, while maintaining solid system stability. During our initial stability testing, running the processor at 100 percent load for over 10 minutes, the chip’s temperature peaked at 65 degrees Celsius. Compare that with last year’s test of the Core i7-2600K; that chip's temperature reached 81 degrees with the same cooler while overclocked to 4.5GHz."

hopefully they don't gank me for stealing their image

this look stock to you?

Oh, I just assume since its Intel it was stock. Everything looks stock when you use a Noctua DH-14 🙂

*rubs hands* I just bought a DH-14 off someone on the forums here and ATM I am planning on 3770K and... 4.7+ Ghz here I come 🙂

Woah, nostalgia! I remember when Computer Shopper was the Newegg of my childhood. I always loved thumbing through the (seemingly millions of) pages to spot a killer deal. I didn't realize these guys still existed.

It's not the usual, flat Intel stock fan, for sure, but it's smaller than a Cooler Master Hyper 212. It's very similar in size to the Xigmatek Loki I have in my computer right now, so it probably has a 92mm fan too.

Overall, I'm expecting (well, hoping) that 120mm or bigger heat sinks will get at least <=65C temps at 4.5GHz or higher for most people. That's alot better than some reviews (TT) were looking like for awhile.

What were they using for system stability testing? Cinebench?

Definitely not Prime95/linX with AVX/or IBT.

Wait for a real review.

Tempered81 is gonna have a full belly from all the words he's going to be eating if this review turns out to be accurate.

Funny thing is that some will declare it fail anyway simply because it didn't hit 5GHz. I'm not one of them however. Can't wait to see more in depth testing of this new cpu.

Haha! You're definitely right about that one.

He has a nice sample. But his is the only report that has 85C for the Sandy and 65C for the Ivy. Right now, he's outnumbered 10-1.

Those who like to tweak their chips for maximum performance will be pleased to hear that the Ivy Bridge chips have a number of internal enhancements to improve overclocking.

I am pleased, sirs.

He used the same cooler/testing and hit 81C on the 2600k at 4.5GHz.

During our initial stability testing, running the processor at 100 percent load for over 10 minutes,

Can you point me to the cinebench that runs for 10 minutes?
