FreeSCO isn't really all that great. I used it for a long time. It's great for what it is (a replacement for a $50 Linksys), but it's TERRIBLY limited for the horsepower that most people give it. I replaced mine with a Gentoo box, will never look back.

I am using ver. .32 and it works great. Does everything I need it for.

what sort of problems did you have with it?

MASQ table overflow. Devs confirmed that it was a problem with their kernel that they can't fix. Therefore, things such as Bittorrent will quickly amount to the router dying until a reboot.

I have never experienced that problem with bittorent. It has been smooth sailing since the beginning of January 2005.

I am always willing to experiment. I might try Mandrake's Multi-Network Firewall.

How is using a 486 a bad idea? It has the same idea as what you have. Most people have change to spare for an older computer like a 486 compared to a PII... Whats is so irrational about using a 486 with ISA nics? Not like you got T3 or anything..

I have nothing against 486's but older Pentium class pc's are better designed and the PCI bus means no messing with irqs or dma etc.

I also don't recall too many 10/100 ISA nics. I prefer 100mbit lans.
