Computer runs chkdsk at startup everytime (winxp)

How do I prevent this? It runs chkdsk every time I reboot or power on. After that, it restarts after finding nothing and proceeds normally. I tried regclean, chkdsk, defrag, scandisk to no avail. Any other suggestions?

i don't know if xp has this feature, but in 98se you can go to start > run & type "msconfig". click ok. go to startup tab. see if the offending program is on the list. if so, uncheck it, restart the machine & problem is gone. hope it works for you! bodinski

i could be wrong but here goes...

chkdsk is like the scandisk for newer OS's... and i know with win98... when u run msconfig-->general-->advanced, there is an option to disable scandisk after bad shutdown. so what i am thinking is... is ur computer shutting down properly? and if there is an msconfig, or a program like it for XP, maybe u can fiddle with it and possibly disable it altogether.

EDIT: someone beat me to it.

like spanky said your computer probably isn't shutting of properely but let it run the chdsk thoroughly and reboot. Even after that, if it keeps running chkdsk I would recommend reinstallation of winXP
