computer running but screen is black

Hi all,

I have an issue with one of my kids PC's and I am not sure what is going on. Computer is a Acer Athlon X2, 32 bit Vista with 3 gb of ram. We have been using onboard video with no issues up until recently.

The problem started when I tried to turn on parental controls for some reason. The computer works fine but sometimes it will boot but the video to the monitor is not there. I can hear the Windows loading sound but there is no picture. On occasion, it will work but when we are doing something on the screen, it will go black.

I had a an older ATI X1650 that works with no problems but the fan is going out on it. I guess I need a new video card but I am not sure what happened. At this point, they just play Mindcraft and some games on Steam.

Any recommendations?

Do you always see the computer posting (like a acer logo) on the screen when your booting up or nothing at all?

Could be the backlight on your lcd. next time the screen goes out try hitting one
of the on screen adjustment buttons on the monitor to see if anything pops on.
