Computer restarts when playing games

I bought and installed a new PSU, and Antec True430, and damnit, I played Far Cry for maybe 10 minutes and got another reboot. :|

Again, I have the newest drivers for everything. This doesn't happen when I am playing older games like HL1, only with more demanding games.

I guess my next step is removing my Audigy card and using the integrated audio to see if that's where the problem lies. After that, maybe I'm going to revert back to Windows 2000, and see if either a new OS or a reformat and install will solve the problem. If not I'm calling VisionTek in regards to the video card itself (this didn't happen with my GF4 ti4200), as they wouldn't help me as long as I'm running 2003 Server.

Anyone else have any other ideas? Anything at all? I am desperate here, I paid $400 for a video card 😱 and can't play any games.

How many dimms of memory do you have?
Are they all the same speed and ok'd for your Motherboard?

I would recomend moving up to PC3200 ddr if your motherboard supports memory speeds of 400mHZ.
It kind of sounds like something is overheating too...
Maybe your motherboard is not compatible with your video card???
How old is the mobo?

Send me the .dmp files from the past 2-3 days found in c:\windows\minidump and I'll tell you what I see.

THIS is the mobo I have. I've had this system for about 1.5 to 2 years. Same mobo, same sound card, same cpu, same HDD's, same CD-RW and DVD drives.

I've had three AGP video cards, 64MB GF2 MX, 128MB GF4 ti4200, and now the X800pro.

I did use driver cleaner before installing the ATI drivers, in fact and again before I installed the newest ATI drivers.

I have "auto restart" disabled, and the computer still reboots. There are not memory dumps since 2/20/04. So I don't think this is a software problem, but a hardware problem. And since this happened shortly after I installed the x800, I think it may be the problem.

How can my mobo not support an x800pro?

I can't find a voltage option in the bios or even a display. The only thing I could change was 2x or 4x, and 4x is where it's set.

If it were me, I'd try removing the Audigy2 since that's a simple test to do.

Is there a reason you need WinServer 2003 on your home system? Maybe set up a Win2000/WS2003 dual-boot if you have an actual reason for a server OS or a post-Win2000 OS.

I was just thinking that maybe your motherboard doesn't have adequate cooling ...
What size power supply are you using? Maybe you don't have enough raw juice... I know the x800 is supposed to run on a 350 but maybe because your PS isn't even putting out the power its supposed to. I just trying to think of probs that I know people have had.

Another friend of mine had a simple problem but I'm not sure if is symptons were the same. I know they were similar. His x800 pro was just bad and needed to be replaced. He was playing battlefield vietnam and his whole system crashed, but his would not reboot. He took the card back and exchanged it for another and it worked fine.

I just bought and installed an Antec True430, a 430w power supply. That's enough, and I'm still having a problem.

I'm reverting back to Windows 2000pro so I can get support from VisionTek, I think the card is just bad. And they won't give me any support as long as I'm running on Windows Server 2003.

Well, I am back on Windows 2000pro, and still having the same problem, looks like the x800pro is going back to VisionTek.

I see your motherboard only supports AGP 4x. Doesn't the x800 only support 8x AGP? Maybe this is the reason for the crashing. Just a thought.

BTW my first post on these forums 😀
