Computer restarts itself.. *updated*...possibly fixed

I installed Roxio's EZ CD Creator 6 on my XP Pro system. After restarting the system windows didn't boot and I got these options:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/net
Safe Mode w/c prompt

Last know config

Normally

I picked last know good config...windows loads. First thing that pops up is a msg telling me Roxio has updated my registry and that I should restart to confirm changes. Havn't been able to load windows since. I can get into safe mode, but cannot delete any programs through add/remove. Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated. TIA

Cheap,

Boot into Safe Mode and do a System Restore to a point before you installed the Roxio.
It sounds like you'll have to go with Nero instead.

Thanks for the suggestion, didn't even remember that tool. Unfortunetly, when I go to use it, it gives me this error msg:

"System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart and then run System Restore again."

Im thinking im basically FUBARed

edit: was looking around and found out I can run system restore from the c prompt....gonna go see if that will work.

edit of the edit 😉 : system restore through the c prompt gives me the same msg. 🙁🙁

I hate Roxio, Nero is much better, instead of using system restore can you use regedit or regedt32 (if you can get to GUI)?

GUI? unfamiliar with that term. What would i do in regedit? Thx

GUI means graphical user interface, or basically Windows running in its normal mode. See if there are any patches or updates from Roxio that you could download, burn to CD on a healthy computer, and then boot your computer into Safe Mode and try the update. I had a similar problem (repeatable, too) with an older version of EZ CD Creator/DirectCD, and this was my solution. Good luck 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion Mech, ill try an update in a little bit...not sure if I can though. I stupidly went into a panic and deleted most the the EZ CD Files, the program files and a few hundred registry keys. 🙁

Update: After reading another forum, I noticed a few people explaining conflict between roxio and creative labs. I then went and unistalled my Soundblaster Audigy card....windows will now load, but it is far from normal. I think I F'ed something up in the registry. Now I can back up some things so I can do a full system restore.
