Hello all,

I purchased a new motherboard / cpu combo, is an ECS 945GCT-M/1333, is a 2.8 celeron CPU and 2GB of RAM (2 X 1024) I am worried about the voltages the computer has been giving to speedfan. The voltages as of right now are as follows:

Vcore1: 1.34v
vcore2: 1.90v
+3.3v: 2.08v
+5V: 5.08v
+12v: 8.32v
-12v: -12.28v
+5V: 4.92v
Vbat: 3.26v

I have in the case installed two small case fans, two SATA HDD's, two DVD-RW, and my SB live X-fi music sound card. Externally I have a USB Seagate HDD, my printer, scanner, mouse and logitech controller, which I connect only when needed, all are usb. In the BIOS there is no way to read the voltages, only the cpu temp can be read. I have a Powmax 500W power supply, and I want to know if what reports speedfan gives can be a misreading. The computer rebooted itself earlier sometimes, but disconnected my external USB hub and all unnecesary things and has been running fine since.

Any help appreciated.

Sounds like it might be a PSU problem since you got rid of extra stuff and it's not rebooting any more.
How can that be, since he's running the "Powmax Assasin 500W"?
It's the Assasin line, for cryin' out loud!

OMFG!!! Seriously? cornelio, is your sig correct in that you are using the Powmax Assassin 500W power supply?

jonnyGURU.com used to have a review of it, but it is no longer listed. However, we have... the Internet Wayback Machine... drum roll plz...

jonnyGURU's review of the Powmax Assassin 500W

As you can see from the results graph at the top of this page, I only performed two load tests on the power supply. This is because beyond 265W the power supply blew up. I let the magic smoke out.

When I grabbed a second Assassin, I tried to start it at Test 3, but it kept tripping. I then decided to do the High 5V Crossload test instead. Despite running at 277.1W, it didn't blow up. I took my notes and then proceeded to bring the wattage down by lowering the 3.3V and 5V. I then started to take the 12V up and as soon as it hit 15A there was a pop and the second power supply was dead.
...
Efficiency isn't even worth mentioning. It was at it's best at 265W just before it blew up. Now I know where they get the 500W rating... that's the wattage coming from the AC outlet.
...
Looking at the insides, I can see why it blew up with such a scary monster load of 300W... As with every Powmax I've seen before this one, the components are non-existant. There are 200W units on the market with more and bigger components than this Powmax.

Final score?

1.5/10

Basically this Powmax Assassin is barely a 250W power supply.

I would suggest that you seriously consider a new and better power supply. There are a few decent choices below $50 that would put out about twice the usable power as that Powmax, plus do it with much better voltage regulation. They won't look as fancy as that Assassin, but your computer components will thank you. Just remember to ask us here about any power supply you will buy BEFORE you buy it, so we can give a  or

Searching for power supplies, I fould an Antec True 430 power supply, which I'm using right now, I am going to use it until I can afford a better PSW, the voltage ratings are:

+5V 36A
+12V 20A
+3.3 28A
-5V 0.5A
-12V 1.0A
+5VSB 2.0A

The only difference this a 20 pin, not 24 pin PSW with the p4 connector, the speed fan readings are more or less the same, but the computer is much stable than before, I intend to buy a geforce 7600Gs or a 7200GS at least, I just want to have a video card to help the cpu with video basically and maybe light gaming, I want to know if with the current Antec Power supply will be strong enough until I can afford a much better power supply.

Thanks for all the replies.
