Could anyone recommend a good computer repair toolset?

I've seen some various ones online and in stores but they have cheap screwdrivers
and other tools. I'm trying to find a set that is of decent quality.

I need tools for working on desktops and laptops. I've been trying
to get a decent toolkit together.

It's ironic that with a screen name like "Thetech" you're asking for good tool recommendations. It's kind of like...."obviously not." ;)

A good set of standard screwdrivers, nutdrivers and mini screwdrivers, pliers, mini-pliers, diagonal cutters (for zip ties) and a good flashlight are what you need.

For 99% of the PC repairs/system builds that I do, I use about 3 different tools total. But those tools will BREAK if they are cheap. Invest in good quality tools.

Buy some sets from Craftsman (Sears) and build your own. All the "computer tool sets" on Newegg, Tiger, etc are all made-in-China crap. The metal is soft and will bend the first time you encounter any resistance.

Good tools are worth the money.

Echo what MichaelD said. I would add that some dental tools are very useful in computers as well as straight and curved surgical clamps. They are far superior to tweezers. Dental mirrors and scrapers/probes can be very useful. The most common tool needed is a good, very small, battery powered Philips screwdriver . very useful for mounting HDDs and opticals in carriers and externals.

My #1 most used tool is a long magnetized #2 Philips screwdriver purchased separately.

Other than that, diagonal cutters, pick set (ever try to move those micro HDD jumpers such as on Seagate SATA drives?) flashlight, slotted screwdriver (makes removing push pin HSFs easy), #0 Philips screwdriver, maybe some nutdrivers for those motherboard standoffs (or buy a Lian Li case that comes with one).

I know, I couldn't come up with a name at the time.
I'm a tech though. It's just that at jobs I've had they already had a full toolset or
Usually I had to use whatever I could find.
