I took my computer in to get fixed because the fan on my video card was making a lot of noise. To figure out which fan was making noise, they put a pencil in each of the fans to see if stopping them made the noise go away. They RMAed the video card, and I'm still waiting to get it back.

Anyway, now annother fan is making noise, and I think it's ffrom them putting the pencil in the fan. Could that be why the fan is making noise?

Good thing the comp is still under warranty!

If the fan is now making noise simply because it was stopped momentarily, it was ready to go tits up anyway.

El cheapo fans often start making bearing noises after a month or so of 24/7 operation.

I agree with Russ. It was either a wierd Coinkidink, or the fan was about to go anyway. Just buy a new fan and put it in yourself. They are only like $2 or so.

Sometimes a blade is damaged and its not too apparent. But the blade can hit on the heatsink a lot, and that gets VERY noisy  Check to see if the blades show any damages (scour for subtle damages). And the symptom of a damaged blade is an EXTREMELY noisy cooling solution....like really loud clanks and stuff.
