Computer Reboots when USB Cable Plugged In

Just got a tech support call from my dad and this one is kind strange. XP boots up normally, the usb end of his camera cable is plugged into a usb port. The computer reboots instantly. On reboot, the computer will not recognize the hard drive.

When I set up the computer, we tested that very cable and sucessfully downloaded pictures no problem. Any thoughts?
