Ok, so I bought a new barebones system from mwave.com, and am very happy with what i got. When i was buying, i decided to futureproof as much as possible in my price range. It arrived and i formatted my HDD and reinstalled windows no problem(although i noticed the monitor turn off a few times during installation, not restarting). I didn't think much of it, and got windows all set up. I logged in windows, loaded all the drivers from the motherboard, and went on my merry way. About 5 minutes after my final restart, my monitor turned off and on again, Hrmmm... . It didn't do it again for another 5 minutes or so, but this time it did it three times in a row.
So i checked to make sure the video card was properly seated and such, turned on and after windows was loaded and the welcome screen came up, the computer was hung so i turned it off and turned it back on. Eventually i got it passed the welcome screen(the monitor turns off everytime right before the welcome/login screen appears) and thought i was good. But it turned off and eventually rebooted itself. So i went to bed and thought i would figure it out today.
Well, today is worse. After it loads Windows, it gets to the welcome/login screen and just restarts, 4 times in a row. So i looked at my graphics card again(Old video card, GeForce4 MX420 or something like that, haven't used it in about 3 years. But it is my only PCI card i have. Remember the future-proofing? No AGP for me atm =(() and started the computer. I noticed the fan on the card is not moving, nor does it attempt to move. And the very last time i rebooted it crashed saying something about new hardware and maybe having corrupted drivers and that if i just installed any new hardware to remove it etc etc.
Is it safe to assume that the problem is from the graphics card? I tried using only one stick of RAm and removing all the unnecessary hardware, and i still have the problem. I just want to make sure before i go out spending $150 right now that i planned to spend in about 2 weeks(stupid family birthdays/poor college student =P)
