computer randomly resets?

i was rendering a video for a school project and while i was waiting for it to finish, i was browsing the internet. then suddenly, my computer just restarts. no BSODs, no nothing. it's as if i just pressed the reset button on my computer (hard reset). and when i finally did get into windows again, all of my firefox cookies were gone, and saved passwords were also gone. what could be the problem?

EDIT: and i cannot seem to log into msn either. this is really worrying me.
EDIT2: it also seems that my second drive ( E: Drive) has just dissappeared off of the My computer list of drives.

i disconnected and reconnected the HDD. everything seems to be normal now. is this something to be worried about?

You should run the hard drive diagnostic that you can get from the manufacturer of the hard drive. It can tell you if there is anything wrong with the drive. If it fails, you can then contact the company and request a warranty replacement (if you still have a warranty).

You should have your data backed up to a secondary, physical drive.

Could be just dust that got into the connection so when you removed the wire it made a good connection.make sure all wires are clean. but dont get your hope up the HDD could be defective too.
