Computer Randomly Reboots

I did a clean reinstall of XP on it so it isn't from the software. Any quick thoughts as to the main reason why it randomly reboots? I am think it is the motherboard but I don't have any spare parts lying around.

Wow, you've really opened a hornets nest here..... reason why noone has responded really, is because you need to be more descriptive... Most likely your system is blue screening, and rebooting automatically, as WinXP is setup to do. You can turn this option off, but I'm not at home to explain exactly how to you... In turning it off, you can get the blue screen error message and get an Idea where the error is coming from...

In addition... when is it rebooting? Games, from the desktop?

What kind of hardware do you have?

Spook

Yeah, well I promised I'd post what I know.

Disclaimer: not my computer. never seen the computer

What we know:

Very random. Can be from desktop or it can be in a game. No BSOD's. It just goes black and then reboots.

hardware: Abit SH6 w/ P3 800, 256MB RAM

Little bit more useful info eh? 🙂

<< could be things getting too hot, and windows telling the comp that so it restarts >>

I thought that too. I am going to have him when he gets home to check the temperatures out because it only happens after extended periods. Also, blow the dust out of it.

How hot is too hot for an Intel chip?
