Very odd situation. I have not made any changes or even cracke dopen the case prior to this error. I am using an MSI Neo Plat with my AMD 3000+ Socket 939.

Out of the blue while working one day my PC powers down for no apparent reason. I think I was using Excel at the time. It refused to power back up. So I assumed I probably has a bad PSU. The next day I toggled the on/off on the PSU and hit the power button and it starts up. XP boots up and I load Battlefield 2 and the computer immediately powers off and will not restart.

After fiddling around with the power strip/surge protector I move to a different outlet and even a different power strip even though the original checked out fine. Same prob. Now, I may get into windows but before long it crashes again.

No BSOD just *poof* it powers off.

I replaced the PSU with a new unit (500W, the old one was 450W and I was nowhere near it's limits) and was able to power up and run for about an hour of time in Far Cry when again it dies on me. So, not the power supply after all.

I pulled the memory (2 x 512MB) and used them each individually with no difference so I don't think it's a RAM prob.

As of now, IF I can even get it to power up, it will go through the POST and about the time the XP logo first appears it crashes although it also crashes when I just go into the BIOS. So I can't blame Microsoft.

I don't really wanna swap processors or motherboards but I'm running out of ideas. It's running pretty cool at about 20 - 25 degrees C.

Any ideas??
