I recently built the PC in my sig below, for the most part it works great but I've been having an annoying intermittent problem that I want to fix.
Every so often, the entire system will crash and video output dies, nothing else is responding as far as I can tell at that point and I have to do a hard reset to turn my machine back on. It always comes back fine without a problem (so far) and this problem only seems to occur every few days or so.
As for when it happens, I can't find a pattern really but it seems to happen more often when my PC is idle for a long time. For example I'll leave it at night and wake up and it will be locked up. I have seen it happen a few times while using it, from what I remember all of these times were when I was playing heroes of the storm, and seemed to happen when I was alt tabbing in and out of the game.
I've removed the OC on my system for now, OCing the video card especially seemed to make the problem occur more often, but I never saw any artifacts or anything like that that I'd normally see with an unstable overclock, and I never see any error message when it crashes, the screen just goes blank.
If anyone can give me some ideas on how to find the root cause I'd appreciate it, as far as I can tell, there are no events recorded in event manager for this and I'm not too sure what else I can check since I'm not getting a blue screen or anything like that.
I'm starting to consider it may be my PSU, I have a 750W PSU that's about 5 years old, and when I built my new PC I had to open it up and clean it out because it was pretty much clogged with dust. I'm not sure about that though since it should be fine to handle my PC at idle but maybe it's just unstable. I may bring a multimeter home and see if any of the voltages look out of range.
Some additional info: I'm running Windows 10 64 bit
I've tried a 2nd video card (780gtx) and I get the same issue with that card.
My MB is a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5.
My PSU is a Corsair 750W model, don't remember which exactly.
Edit: Just realized I put this in general hardware, if a mod could move it to computer help that'd be appreciated.
