Computer Question: Laptop is....

Well I just bought this laptop yesterday. And it has 256MB of ram in it. But for some reason its only reading as 192MB, but also I added a stick of 512 in there but the 512 is PC2100 and the 256 is PC2700 Would that conflict at all? Also, sometimes when I go to properties on my computer to see what the speed is running at it says 508MHZ. But then some other times it reads 2.13GHZ which is what it should be reading. It has a AM Athlon X-M 2800+ in it. I believe it has somethng called quantiumspeed or something like that but I'm not quite sure if that is why the processor is running so low at some times. But If anyone can help me out that would be great.

I'll bet the missing memory is taken by the video. It has "shared" memory.

Check your RAM slots individually, see if it comes up right in each slot alone.

1) 256-192=64... I bet your video card has 64MB of memory since your RAM is shared for your system and video card.

2) As far as I know, it shouldn't

3) It's there as a power saving feature. Usually you can set the performance setting that you desire when going mobile. You can disable it all and let it always run at full speed with the brightest screen setting but your battery life will suffer.

Read #3. It will ramp down your speed dependent on two things. Whether or not you're mobile (just to increase battery life) and what you're doing. If you're just sitting around doing email, it will reduce its speed to increase battery life. Go google AMD power now!
