Programmers have long been exept from OT. That's why a lot of corps were so quick to give that title out along with a salary raise.

you know they really don't care about cursing in a thread in OT as long as the title is clean. you're just annoying the mods if you really are reporting cussing in OT and wasting your time.

and it's swear, shit fer brains.

We can only hope that he pisses the mods off enough that they take away his computer...Just banning him won't be enough...he comes to "that site that cannot be named" and pesters everyone there...😛

Apparently they do get annoyed at reporting your own posts though 😉

The regulations say that the job title doesn't matter. It's the principle job duties that matter. If someone only spends about 10% of their times doing duties that fall under this regulation, and 90% of the time doing other things, then calling them a programmer does NOT exempt them from overtime.

True but good luck proving that.

im in the financial sector and every bank/insurance co within 100 miles of me has like 5 open positions for developers

Wow, definitely not the norm where I worked (it was a small division of sunlife financial). We had devs, but they were all temporary. Once the product or module was implemented they left.

It's too expensive to have a staff of experienced high paid devs when every kid in high school is programming these days. Most places I've worked at realize this and hire young college grads at $10-15/hour on a temp contract.

The problem with this is support. Once they leave you need someone who knows the code and can fix the bugs. Also, the code ends up sloppy since so many programmers are in the mix. All in all it worked though, and probably saved the company a ton of money overall.
