computer programmers to lose overtime pay! <20 years ago!!!>

OP definitely needs to READ the artciles (and their dates of publication) that he links to before posting.
 
Our owners work 60+ hours each week without overtime, so why would the slaves get overtime?

btw, I have been working in IT for more than 10 years and never heard about OT...

you need to move if that is the case and are worried about it.

as a software developer i'm on salary so i don't get paid OT. however i don't work more than 40 hours a week, and if this job started to force that upon me i'd quickly jump ship.

must be because over here, there's tons of demand for developers.

I've seen this happening in the financial sector a little bit. I'm in education now, and they just use google apps for everything, so we have no devs here either.

im in the financial sector and every bank/insurance co within 100 miles of me has like 5 open positions for developers

I hear that iD software is working on a sequel to Wolfenstein, called "Darn" or something like that . . . and this time it's going to require at least an 80386 processor and VGA graphics!

Must be, then. Every company I've been at, all coding is outsourced, and it's a real mess too. I don't understand the point of having so many 3rd party apps that don't tie properly with each other instead of hiring a few programmers to code a custom solution, but w/e. Some bad business decisions, I will just never understand.

I would love a programming job, but it's not something that exists around here.

Even IT is kinda dying here. There is an IT related job that comes out maybe once a month at most, and it's usually minimum wage, one of those "use your own car and run around town fixing random stuff" jobs.

I've been considering a career change. Trades are booming with all the houses, buildings, mines etc being built. Though those tend to cycle so it's not always greener on the other side.

thats weird, in ohio there are 100's of programming jobs posted in each major metro area (dunno about the rest of IT positions)

PLEASE tell us what "sector" or company you work for so we can put what money we have somewhere else. If your "sector" or company is 20 years behind (as you were when you posted this) then we could use the warning ...
