I just bulit a new computer, but i have a problem. For some reason the computer acts real slow sometimes and when i restart it, windows XP Pro SP2 does not come up. I have to shutdown the computer and turn it on and that's when windows comes back up. Restarting sometimes does work though. I've teste the RAM(1 Gig Patriot PC3200) and the hardrive(Seagate SATA 250GB) and all came up good with no errors. i used mem test86 for Memory and easy recovery professional tool do a full test on the HD. I did a torture test on the CPU(Hammer 3500+) using Prime 95 and it passed. I have a 6800 GT card and a MSI SLI PLATINUIM BOARD with the latest BIOS installed. I have a 420 watt enermax powersupply. The case has two fan with lights and two DVD burners.(NEC 16X). I have done a test on all devices except for the video card, motherboard, and powersupply. Is there such software that can test them out? i reformatted the harddrive twice. I think it could be a power issue. in the manual a 450 watt powersupply is highly reccomended. at first i had an earlier bios version but i updated due to my problem but still that didnt resolve the issue. I'm going to return my power supply tomorrow and get a higher wattage name brand powersupply. Hopefully this is the cause of my problem. Anyone have any clues as to why this is happening to me.

enermax are fine cpu's. do you have a dvm to check the rails? or download everest or something to give you an idea of possivle weak psu, but software reads on psu's are notoriously inaccurate. it might point out a glaring problem though. you should really get a digital volt meter to test it.

edit--how are your temps?

how much do those run for? Do you think my Power Supply might be the issue? I forgot to mention the Temperatures. CPU 48 degrees on 100 % Usage. 39-40 on idle. NB is at 39 degrees idle and 41 degrees on 100 % CPU Usage.

a dvm can be had for around 15$ i think. i paid $20 or something like that but they are good to have. any radioshak or similar should have one.

i think you psu is probably fine for stock, not ocing. whenever you have an sli board they want a ton of watts. dfi want 480 but i know there are people running them with 400 and less with only one graphics card like you.

cpu temp might be warm but certainly not hot enough to cause problems.

are you sure you have all the power connectors in properly? i'm not familiar with your board.

also its a heck of alot easier to list your components seperately so they are easier to find, but at least you listed them, ;)

i guess i don't understand the "slowness" are any games or benchmarks crashing? any bsods at all or is it just sluggish? prime runs fine you say.

it runs slugglish. Opening applications like itunes, photoshop. Stuff like that. and when i restart it, like i said before windows doesnt come up. i have to either restart it again or shutdown the computer for windows to come up. thanks guys for all the help. i also think 420 watt should be enough on my system. and it's enermax which i've never had a problem before.

Did the problems start BEFORE of AFTER you did the mobo BIOS update ???
