Computer problems

I'm trying to fix a friend's computer. Basically he has a 2600+ AMD system from HP. It's a nice system however it's really slow. I know it's spyware ridden however I downloaded the Ad-Aware software as well as the definitions.

This is the main problem that we're experiencing. When browsing various websites, every single time I go to say ebay.com and try to login it errors. The error I get is as though no internet was available. But I am able to browse other websites such as msn.com, etc.

I cannot for the life of me uninstall Norton's Internet Security. When I try it says fatal error occured and does not uninstall the software.

Any ideas on what could be happening?

I scanned his computer with both Ad-Aware and Spybot and removed whatever spyware it brought up. I am not noticing any suspecious processes running either. Thanks in advance.

this gets rid of trojans in IE. Not sure if this will fix your errors, but give it a go. Are you sure ebay isn't just down??

Infact it could be Internet Security thats blocking it aswell, try disabling firewall temporarily while browsing.

Well the internet security is set to off right now. I can't even activate it to go on. So I'm guessing there is some virus on there that is keeping me from doing so. I'm certain there is a virus however I was not able to scan the entire hard drive yesterday.

post your hijackthis log in this thread, i will give you a solution as soon as i can get ahold of it. should take care of any trojans or spyware on it.

reinstall windows. Takes way less time and if its that messed up, fighting with it will never to worth it.
