Computer PROBLEMS!! HELP!!

So, I got my new power supply unit (500W fortron blue storm) which the people over at anatech's forums recommended. I also bought another stick of 512 mb ram. I took out my old PSU, put the new memory in, next to my old one, and then hooked up the new PSU. First attempt, everything went fine, was in windows, surfing the internet!...then I had BSOD, where it said "physical memory dump" ... and all that crap that goes along with it. Computer restarted itself, and it came to the screen where it says "your computer did not shut down right" or whatever, "would you like to go in safe mode, etc, last config that worked, or start normally"? So i tried normally, and everytime I try anything, my computer just restarts itself. Help?

The computer worked this morning =/
I'm sort of a noob when it comes to computers...
BTW, here is my computer...

Built this approx. a year ago:
Raidmax Silver 10-bay Case w/ 420Watt Power Supply NOW 500 W Blue Storm...
MSI K8T NEO-FIS2R
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
512 MB Corsair-XMS DDR400 X 2 = 1 GB
LiteOn Black DVD-RW/+RW Drive
LITE-ON BLACK 16X DVD ROM Drive
Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
ViewSonic E70F+SB 17" Perfect Flat CRT Monitor
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 PCI Sound Card
+ a 160 GB WD IDE Harddrive I got the day after Thanksgiving...

This is more than likely a memory problem. It happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I had been using some memory well for a year without problems then all of the sudden I began getting Memory Dumps like crazy. So I took out that RAM and all was resolved.

Well, it let me into windows after I took out the new memory.... Uhh...is there any BIOS settings/anything I can try doing to solve this? Will puting my memory in the 3rd slot make any difference?

u could try another slot.

the cas settings might not be matching up with the other stick.

are both sticks identical? if so then yes i would rma.

Not Identical.

OLD STICK:
CMX512-3200LL XMS3205v1.2

XMS3200 512MB 400 MHZ 2326

NEW STICK:
CMX512-3200C2 XMS3202v1.2
0503124-0
XMS3200 512MB 400MHZ CL2

A. Try it in a different slot?
B. Try the new memory alone?
C. Any BIOS settings I should fiddle with?
D. RMA of doom @_@
E. Anyting else I can try?

Computer booted up when I changed the CAS Latency to 2.5? I'm a little unknowledgable when it comes to this stuff... what's better.. 2.0, 3.0, or 2.5?

try sticking the new stick in on it's own and booting windows. if that works, it's a timing/compatibility problem. if it doesn't work, the stick is probably bad. run memtest on the stick before you rma it, and try and get a stick of the same stuff you already have.

edit: ah, cas 2. 🙂 hopefully you solved your problem

It's not liking 2... computer wouldn't even boot up with that, it would keep beeping and the floppy drive would go nuts (guess it was restarting itself over and over...)

Is 2.5 going to make a real difference? =/ If this works for a little while and doesn't mess up my computer, should I keep it, or RMA it, have them charge me like $25 to restock it or whatever, and buy my old memory for $150-175 ish? (I bought it orig. for like 90, but I see the same memory for almost double the price now?!)

I have the same problem in my main rig. It runs great with one stick of 512mb RAM but when I put another 512mb stick in it goes all haywire. What is the trick to getting 2 different sticks of RAM working together?

Is 2.5 going to be ok...? Does it really matter? Or is having it set to 2.5 to work just puting the point of high quality memory to waste?

Running at cas 2.5 will be fine. With the on die memory controler of the A64, memory timings make very little differance.
