Computer powers up but I can't get any video.

About 18 months ago I decided to upgrade my computer and bought a new case, psu, and video card. When I got it all together it booted up fine but my monitor would not show anything other than a black screen.

Thinking one of my new parts was broke I tried my old video card again, no video, and then my old case and PSU but still no video. I put the new video card and PSU into a different computer and they worked fine. I also tested the ram and monitor in this second computer to see if they worked and the did.

After the internet failed to help me I decided to take it to a computer repair shop. I explained the problem and the guy told me it was probably my motherboard or CPU. So I bought a new motherboard and CPU.

When they came and I got everything put together and again booted up fine but it still gave me no video.

I am trying to get it to work without any extra things (like hard drives or DVD burner) plugged in. Just ram, cpu, psu, mobo, video card, and case.

Three days later I shipped out and spent 18 months in Afghanistan and Kuwait. Now I'm home again and I've spent the past two days trying to get it to work but I'm having the same problem. I know 18 months is a lifetime in computer parts but I've spent over $800 on parts so I want this computer to work.

In conclusion:
My computer boots up fine but I get no images on my monitor
Power supply, video card, monitor, ram, all work in a different computer.
two different CPU and Motherboard combinations, one set brand new, are giving me the exact same problem

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this problem? I'm probably just screwing something simple up.

1: remove video card and start pc , it should give you an error code beep if all else is working well. ie: your mobo, cpu, ram, psu...if thats all good, then it will give an error beep code for no video card.(usually one long beep followed by three short beeps)

2: If the above does not give you an error beep code, then are you using a motherboard with onboard video?
If so, you have to hook the monitor to the onboard video and go into the bios and disable it.

3: when you say your pc boots up fine, please explain.....do you get a post BEEP?

4: what motherboard is it?

My Friend has the same problem. The only thing that hasn't been replaced are his CPU's (he got a Quad FX (EPIC FAIL)). It's basically sat there for about a year. He finally took it to a repair shop. It's probably the CPU.

If its the cpu, the pc wont won't post let alone boot.
Thats why you need to be sure it is posting by listening for the post beep on startup, since you dont have any video.

Since you said it boots, its important that you KNOW that its posting/booting and not just the fans running and the only way to do that without video is the post beep or the "no video" beep error code.

If it beeps, your cpu/mobo/psu/ram are good.

No BEEPS ..... something else is wrong besides video and a dead cpu would be the number one culprit if the fans all run.

So, as I stated earlier, Are you SURE its posting/booting or are just not using the term "booting" correctly and its just the fans running?
