I've seen this topic come up many times but just realized I have a pretty concrete answer. I recently purchased a few Dynex UPS's that came with excellent power monitoring software. Off the top of my head, I can show how much power is being used by 2 of my crunchers (with monitors on of course):

Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2150MHz
nForce2 Ultra
420w TSP Power supply
17" Samsung LCD
GeForce 3 Ti500
1GB RAM
Audigy 2
Raptor 36GB
Seagate 80GB
CDRW drive
DVD ROM drive

Total UPS draw = ~245 watts
UPS draw without LCD = ~211 watts

Pentium 4 2.53@2.70
Intel 845
420w TSP power supply
2x512MB OCZ
17" Dell Trinitron CRT
ATI 9700 Pro
20GB WDC
40GB Maxtor
CDRW drive
DVDROM drive

Total UPS draw = ~ 270 watts

yeah, i have a similar program with my apc ups.

x2 3800 @ 2700
dfi sli-dr
2x 1024 ram
7800gtx
74gb raptor, 250gb wd sata
floppy, 2x dvd's, 4 case fans
antec tpII 550
19" lcd
wireless router, dsl modem

drawing 306w from the ups right now when crunching, 360ish while gaming and crunching.

actually, i just turned off my speakers and printer and it dropped to a 300w draw :p

I attribute a $30 / month drop in my Electricity bill last month to turning off some machines at night. I was really just tired of the noise in my bedroom while sleeping.

Of course that made it colder in the room so now I am thinking of turning on the heater.
So much for the electricity savings...

Yes, temperature plays a big part in whether I run alot of PCs or not, and at what times of the year. Once I hit my goal of 1 million in the E@H project, I'll be shutting down a number of the older/slower rigs, as it will be spring-time going into early summer anyway, and I'll not want to run AC to cool the house with PCs running generating excess heat. ;) In the winter it's a whole other story.

Interesting ,I'm surprised your 2nd rig doesn't draw a lot more power with its P4,CRT & 9700 Pro

Let us know how much difference the monitor makes :)

lol ,what you need to do is quieten your PCs & then you can have the best of both worlds:)

OK, I updated the system with the LCD but with the CRT system it's too difficult to move the plug.

is that under 100% load?

it also probably helps that you have Seasonic PSUs... i wish i could afford to put those in all my foilding boxes but I"ve been sufficing by putting in some 40 dollar 400W active PFC PSUs from newegg... they seem to do the job :)

nice box btw...

That said, where do you live and hwat are you working hours ;)

Yes, that was under as much load as I could get it. Running Muon & running scandisk on the 6-disk RAID 5 array.

And I work at Naval Station Ingleside, in security. And I work all kinds of weird hours and shift. Feel free to come over. It will let me test out my newly acquired NCIC, TCIC, NLETS, and TLETS certifications. :)

And although you would be able to roll the machine to the door, good luck loading up the 175 pound case. :)

Not at all. I was implying that you will need another person, as my wife will be busy playing Guild Wars. It's insured, and the money would get me a hell of an upgrade. :D

Just leave me the hard drives... I have data backed up, but not everything... That would suck. They are easy to pull out too!!

ROFL. If you want just one, why not take one of the how-swap 120s? Works out easier for me.

So I should lock up the computer when I leave for work now, just to piss you off? The front locks, as well as both sides of the back.

EDIT: Damn, guess I should put on the side panels first...

Anyone know about how much money per month that translates to, average? I seem to be out of it today, I have no idea even where to begin to figure that out.
