Computer Power Problem..

Hi All,
I've got a PC that will boot up and run just fine, however after I shut it down it won't restart again for at least an hour.

if that's not clear, here's an example:
I turn on my computer, use it for however long then shut it down. A minute later I want to start it back up again but when I push the power button I hear the hd start to spin but other than that it just sits there. Nothing on the monitor, no POST beep. NOTHING. Turn it off, turn it on, same thing. I've even turned off the power supply switch for a few minutes and turned the PC back on, SAME THING! I've gone as far as to unplug the MB from the power supply... but still it just will sit there! The only way to start it back up again is to turn it off and let it sit for an hour or so; then when I turn it back on it boots up just fine.

Any clues on what may be the cause of this? It's an older system: Athlon TB on an Asus A7V running Windows XP.

Thanks for any help

Sounds like either a MOBO or PSU problem... Check all connections (blah blah), then I'd try using another PSU if available. What model PSU is it?

Its an Antec 400w PSU, I don't know if there's a more exact model number but it came with the Antec 1040 case I bought about 2.5 years ago. I'd hate for it to be the PS, I was hoping to keep it around for a while longer. It's never made my computer restart in the middle of a session, but it couldn't hurt trying another PSU, I think I've got a 300w sitting around somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Check the psu to see if it is getting too hot. If so, check its fan too.
