computer parts through airport?

One of my friends is going to be taking a flight soon and he was planning on transporting some computer parts (cpu, hard drive, etc) with him for somebody back home. He was wondering if it was ok to let that stuff go through the scanners at the airport. Will it damage the goods at all?

Why subject such equipment to standard luggage handling? Either ship it or carry it.

The scanner won't, the fat guy throwing the luggage in the plane will.
