I am a Malaysian student going to USC in Los Angeles next month.

Are there any online stores which warehouses are in around LA so i can go to n pick up the stuff i've ordered online, instead of paying 4 shipping? Is this possible anyway... :p

I've read that sales tax in LA is 8.25%, which sounds pretty high. How would you guys recommend me to buy so that i'll minimize shipping cost, taxes n stuff like that?

Thanks loads

mwave.com - add $5 per order for will-call pick-up.

want to get better price but mail order only?
newegg.com

don't want to pay tax?
dell.com (home software & peripheral section)
amazon.com
tcwo.com (good price on cpu)

need generic cables cheap immediately?
Fry's Electronics - in Burbank or City of Industry

want to be ripped off by paying double or triple for some so-called brand name cables?
staples, office depot, office max, compusa, bestbuy, circuit city, radio shack

wake up early on sunday?
Check the above chain retailers for some hot deals.
Today bestbuy will have Philips 40x cd-r 100 pack pay $19 get back $19 by mail-in rebate = free but tax.

you can forget about any small one-man-show computer store you see on the street.

MWave is in City of Industry - East of LA. But, you will pay sales tax. You can also visit any Fry's Electronics store - several in the L.A. area. They have great sales and full page ads every week in the Times.

Mwave is about 40mins away from downtown LA... you will pay a service charge and tax... there's FRY's by Burbank... and by LAX... around 20 minutes away from the airport. Mwave is definitely a lot cheaper but FRY's has the most convenient return policy... newegg doesn't have a will call window but their shipping is very respectable. I bought my monitor from Mwave just because I didn't want to deal with shipping problems so I picked it up myself... but everything else I just got from newegg... saves me the trip.

I just graduated from USC. I went to the Fry's near LAX several times. It's a pretty quick drive.
