Computer only works at certain houses?!?!

My brother has a strange problem with his computer. This all happened after I did a clean install of Windows ME. Ok, I have his computer at my house and its working fine and boots perfectly with no problems. He hooks it up at his house and on boot up it has a Blue Screen. My bro says he can get past that and it trys to load a device driver. Then it freezes after that. So he brings the computer to a friends house and it works fine there to!!! That is weird. He has tryed disconnecting the cable modem , mouse, and everything else at the 3 different houses. And this still happens. Could it be the wiring in his house? He said its kindof old. Could there be some kind of interference? He said there are no TV's on or any other computers on in the house. Im stumped on this one. The computer is a K6-2 266, 64mb, 6.4gb Fujitsu.

Yep im sure. He has brought it over to me to look at twice now and both times it worked at my house and not his.

try checking the AC source. I've seen bad AC power do some weird Sh%$ to computers. If you can get hold of or borrow a Fluke, you can monitor the AC power for awhile.

good luck.

Well his powersupply is a POS. Its like falling apart. But still it works at my and a friends house. We used different monitors and different mouses, but there just regular compaq, etc mice. Nothing special. I dont see how a monitor could cause this problem. We are plugging all of these directly into the wall outlet. No UPS. How do you check the AC Source MinniePin

If the wiring in his house is old than the voltages may not be stable or upto the min required to run the computer. Check the voltage from the same phase as the computer when it is running. It may be that the voltage at his place is very low. Also check if the negative and positive power is on the right pins. Where I live in Asia this is a common problem. Often the reason is no earth connection or wrong positive/negative wire connections.

He's gonna have to get the power checked out in that house. That could definatly be the problem. It needs an AT powersupply. What would be the best for a low power consuming system like this?
