Okay so i just finished building my first build,
i7-2600k
p67a-ud3
corsair vengence
samsung f3
haf 922
gtx570
corsair hx850w

so i did all the cables and everything and tried to turn it on, but nothing happened except a small light came on and went off on the motherboard. I unplugged everything and tried the little psu test and the fan twiched, not sure if the psu is working or what but it twiched, and i feel like its working, not sure what the problem is. Gonna take it to microcenter tommorow or something and see what they say. But any suggestions other than that?

Check the CPU power cable, make sure there are no standoff's touching the motherboard in the wrong place. That PSU is too big o_e...

You are wasting power probably with that PSU, you arent running it at 50-60% efficiency (when it is most efficient) so it will use MORE power then say a 500w PSU would.

OP, also check to make sure that you've plugged in the ATX12V and PCIe power connectors.

Try testing it outside of the case. Put the motherboard on top of the box it came in. Double check that the CPU, heatsink/fan, RAM are properly installed. Install graphics card. Hook up power supply (24-pin to motherboard, 8-pin to motherboard, two 6-pin to graphics card, switch turned on). Then, try to power up the motherboard by momentarily (touch and go) contacting the two power switch pins with a screwdriver.

You are correct in saying that the PSU will be less efficient, but it isn't that bad. During non-gaming the system might be running under 100W if power management is enabled, but the PSU should still be around 70-80% efficient at those low levels while a decent 500W PSU would likely still be 80%+.
