I have a Dell Dimension 266 and I'm trying to install a NIC. I put in the card and my computer doesn't see it at all. I've gone into the BIOS and made sure there were sufficient IRQs and there are plenty, made sure it was in Plug and Play mode, and have tried installing the driver through "Add/Remove Hardware" in the contol panel. What's the deal? Why is my computer not reconizing the new device?

I have a modem and DSL card in my machine and had no problems with the plug and play, it was seen right away on boot up. The card works in an older Gateway (133mhz). It's a Realtek 10/100 card.

HELP!

I bet bet bet.... that you didn't put it in all the way. Make sure that the card is fully in the slot, sometimes it takes quite a bit of force to get it in right (don't be afraid, if you push straight down you wont break anything).

Try seating the card in another slot as well. I've run into this problem before too and putting it into another PCI slot did the trick.

Yeah another slot may cure this, my last NIC only worked on certain IRQs. Try changing them around.
